Wiring Quick Reference Card

Can you include a wiring quick reference card in the XRP kit?

Maybe add it to the sticker sheet just as a reference.

The assembly video and the assembly instructions do a great job of explaining how to wire the range sensor and the line following sensor. This was perfect for the first and second time I assembled the XRP.

Now that I’m on my sixth (or maybe seventh), I’m ready to open the box and get straight to it. The one thing I can’t remember is which wires go where. I still have to grab my phone, do a couple searches, follow a few links, and scroll a few pages to see the wiring diagram.

If there were a quick reference somewhere (extra card, in the box, on the sticker sheet, recessed letters on the 3D printed mounts) it would help out. I could get a new XRP ready from the shipping box to doing demonstrations in the 10 minutes of setup before the booth opens and people start asking questions.

Thanks

Hey, great suggestion! I’ll pass this feedback along to see whether we can make that happen.

Just to confirm, you’re asking for wiring of the 2 sensors, correct?

Is there any other information you’d like to see included in a quick reference card?

Thanks!

Yes, the two sensors (Range and Line) are the ones I’m thinking of.

This week I attended two outreach events. I had to do a quick assembly prior to the start of each one because I keep loaning my XRP to teams to experiment with. Because of this topic I forced myself to remember that the Yellow goes next to the Black and was able to get them running prior to the start of each event.

With these recent, quick turn assemblies, the only thing that I had to memorize were the sensor wiring. Everything else is labeled well and we had fun showing off the XRP to folks stopping by the booth. Several teams and several teachers took pictures of the XRP, so hopefully we’ll see more of them in classrooms and summer camps.

I also recommend folks get two sets of rechargeable batteries and a slim wall charger. I often don’t have power available in a booth at an outreach event. I keep a set of charged batteries in the robot and the second set in the charger. I can swap them out and then try to find an outlet. If I don’t find an outlet, I can just plug the charger in when I get home and have those as my spares for the next event.
