Bad motor driver on one side?

Our FRC team picked up an XRP DIY kit a few days ago, to add to our collection of beta XRPs. We’ve got a problem with one of the motor channels being barely able to move a motor. The problems follows the channel, not the motor. (In other words, no matter what motor we connect, this particular channel is weak). All the connections look good. It doesn’t appear to be a software issue - we have the same issue whether using the Wpilib firmware, or just a normal python program.

Any ideas on this one? It seems like it might be a defective motor control circuit, but it’s surprising that it’s weak, not completely dead.

Hi there!

Hmm, that is surprising. Only thing I can think of is maybe the motor driver IC has a defect. I would suggest posting to the SparkFun forums, should be able to get further assistance from a SparkFun tech support rep. If they determine the board is defective, you should be able to get an RMA.

Hope this helps!
